It is easy to forget with terms like EEF, Corded Ware, etc that these people had their own kings and heroes, their own Gods and rituals. Countless tribes and nations lie buried in the Earth whose very names have been forgotten.
You writing makes the past came alive in a way that the coldly scientific terminology of archaeology can often obscure.
Makes me feel like a young boy again, excited to discover exotic races far away in the distant past.
Fantastic piece. One thing I was surprised to see was the suggestion that the Sky Father was a dimly recalled warlord rather than an emergent form of a common human archetype. That would be the side I lean towards anyway.
"Part of their nation, the Ostrogoths, proceeded to devastate the Balkans, including Greece, and launched several invasions of Italy. Failing in 402 and 406, they succeeded in 408."
This is confused; the Visigoths succeeded in 408 and failed in 402. The 406 Goths were another wave from outside the Empire; likely pushed by the Huns (who helped out the Roman Empire here) from present-day Romania.
Also, Guy Halsall argues the Goths raiding the Balkans were totally defeated in 382, and only became a formidable force again due to their participation in Roman wars.
Wonderful stuff! Reading about these events on a grand scale is exciting! I am quite glad for a very badly run and not very civil society with indoor plumbing!
Serbs and all Slavs happily borrow a saying from your culture:
Nomen ist Omen.
And you Germans, we call you Nemci and Nemachka.
What does the Name signify? State of Being Mute!
Today in Germany on the east side of Limes Sorabicum you can see only Germanized Serbian toponyms, but none the less Serbian.
There are about 30 to 60 thousand Serbian speaking Wends left in Germany(after a thousand years of Germanization).
They represent today what the Indians represent in US.
What you try to convey in this text is full of inaccuracies, some by you lack of knowledge and some from pure romanticized propaganda(whether intentional or not doesn't make a difference)
I am not going to point to each one since my text would be longer than yours is.
And second, by sheer experience i find these interaction/reaction to be one way street.
You have your opinion based on what was served to you, i have my own opinions, but the difference between the two of us is what you write about your self as opposed to what was written about us by others, a difference like heaven and earth.
I was under the impression that the latest theory on the Celtic peoples is that they were Germanic, but you make a distinction here between the two. Is my confusion due to their ancestral homeland being in Southern Germany and Czechia?
Since none of the other comments have brought it up, I'd like to know how likely you think it is that there's something special about Germanic people more so than other Europeans? It's difficult not to notice that the correlation between having a Germanic population and being a successful modern European country is quite strong, over having, say, Celtic or Slavic demographics. Is that related to why they could expand so much during the migration period?
Germanic successes in Classical Age can be attributed to better nutrition - the Romans and Greeks didn't think highly of their intelligence, but they did admire their height and strength. For Medieval and Modern ages, if there are intelligence differences, I'd guess that they are due to a fragmented political landscape and favorable hydrology creating a large socioeconomic niche for middle class types (millers, smiths, artisans, etc).
Great work, especially on the Pre-historic era.

What a tour de force!

For the end, your point is Mute!
Excellent work, as always.

Are Swedes the purest of Germanics?
Great read.
